The Izard County Sheriff’s Office arrested of a man for filing a fake report with law enforcement according to court documents.

Clayton Smyser l, age 20, contacted the Izard County Sheriff’s Office about an alleged stolen vehicle. 

Deputies met with Smyser at his residence in Pineville, and Smyser told officers that his black 2015 Ford F-350 had been stolen from his residence sometime after 6 pm on Feb. 21 .

Smyser signed written statement regarding the theft of his vehicle.

Officers noted that he had several cuts on his hands, face, arms, and neck at the time of the police report. 

Once the vehicle was entered into the National Crime Information Center as stolen, it was discovered that the vehicle had fled from Arkansas State Police in Fulton County on the evening of Feb. 21. 

According to the report, the pursuit ended when the vehicle driven by Smyser lost control and wrecked, at which time Smyser fled on foot into a nearby wooded area and he escaped custody. 

On Feb. 25, officers met with Smyser in Fulton County and he confessed to driving the vehicle that fled from ASP on Feb. 21, and later reporting the truck stolen on Feb. 22. 

Smyser was charged with felony filing a false report with a law enforcement agency. 
His bond was set at $6,000.
