The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation after an incident in Portia on Wednesday evening.
At 6:52pm a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy called for a medical unit, the Criminal Investigation Unit and the Sheriff to respond to Portia.
Medical units responding requested a medical helicopter be placed on standby if needed. Portia Fire Department responded to the scene for assistance.
Shortly after 7pm Sheriff Waldrupe and investigators arrived on scene. The scene was sealed off as officers conducted their investigation.
A vehicle belonging to the victim was removed from the scene.
Units were on scene until 8:50pm.
The identity of the victim has not been released at the time of this article.
