Authorities report that 51-year-old Joshua Smithee was involved in an armed standoff on Sunday afternoon in Marion County.

Law enforcement officers were struck by shrapnel when Smithee shot a vehicle the officers were near.

Deputies responded to a call at a residence where a man was threatening a family member. When authorities arrived Smithee refused to exit the residence and threatened to shoot deputies. 

The standoff lasted nearly two hours. Smithee at one point fired three shots hitting a vehicle with shrapnel hitting two deputies in the faces and bodies.

One deputy returned fire, Smithee finally surrendered.

Smithee was taken into custody, the investigation into the incident continues.
