On April 15th 1991 Officer Scotty Bennett and his partner were called to a domestic dispute. The officers cleared from the call and left to eat dinner when they were called back around 7pm for a second time. As Officer Bennett was exiting the patrol vehicle he was shot at close range by a 12 gauge shot gun, killing Officer Bennett. The suspect Dwight Sullinger then turned the gun on himself attempting suicide, the attempt failed. Sullinger was tried and convicted of the murder of Officer Scotty Lee Bennett in a Lawrence County court.

Special thanks to Jim Jones, a friend and colleague of Scotty Bennett’s for keeping this memory alive.
