Sheriff Kevin Bell warns of scammers using the sheriff’s phone number on caller ID. The sheriff stated the 870-892-8888 phone number of the RCSO appears on the caller ID. Scammers have internet tools that can falsely post numbers on caller ID.
Sheriff Bell says a person claiming to be Sheriff Tom Griffin ( no affiliation with RCSO) prompts people to pay fines or fees online.
Sheriff Bell warns the citizens that this is a scam. Randolph County does not call for payment of fines or fees over the phone.
Sheriff Bell reminded citizens to report this or other scams to the proper authorities.
