Memorial Day Weekend Events and June Fishing Derby at Lake Charles State Park

Friday
3:00PM – Volleyball Game
Meet us at the volleyball pit above the swimming beach to challenge other park visitors to an afternoon game of volleyball.

10:00PM – Star Program / Meteor Shower
Ever wondered what some of the brighter lights in the sky are? Or the lights that move? Come to the levee boat ramp for a special stargazing program during a meteor shower as the Earth passes through a comet’s orbital dust trails. It will be dark, so please wear closed-toe shoes and bring a small flashlight. You may also want to bring a chair and some bug spray.
Saturday
1:30PM – Kick off the weekend with a bang! Civil War Cannon Demonstration in the day use area.
2:00PM – Critter Lunch
Visit the nature center to learn about the dietary habits of some of the creatures seen around the park. We will also be feeding the alligator and the snakes.

2:00 – 4:00PM Nature Center Open
6:30PM – Evening Kayak Tour
Join the park interpreter as we paddle across the lake to visit Flippo Cove, the largest cove on Lake Charles. Along the way we should see a variety of water birds and maybe some of the larger wildlife that comes down to the shore. Please see visitor center for pricing and to register.
Sunday
10:00AM – Introduction to Geocaching
Ever thought about getting into this GPS-based treasure hunt? Come to the nature center where the park interpreter will go over some of the basics of geocaching. We will then hike out to find the Lake Charles Parkcache, part of the Arkansas State Parks’ geocache program. If you have a GPS unit, please bring it along.

12:00 – 2:00PM – Nature Center Open

3:00PM – Nature Scavenger Hunt
Join the park interpreter at the nature center for an adventure. Challenge other participants to see who can find the most items on the scavenger hunt list. You will learn about some of the many things found in nature, as well as what belongs and what doesn’t.
