On Monday, officers from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office were called to the area of East 1st Street, several residents reported a male walking in circles in the street. Officers responded to the area but the suspect was not there, another resident reported that the male had went into the woods near the Game and Fish Boat Ramp. Officers entered the woods and found the suspect hiding on the backside of a tree overhanging the Spring River.

The suspect identified as Jimmy Dion Welch was detained and was found to have a warrant for Parole Violation, the suspect was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail where he was held until transferred to Sharp County to face charges.

Welch has a lengthy criminal record which includes criminal trespassing, drug and firearm charges. Welch also admitted in a written statement that he was under the influence of Meth but refused a drug test according to Sheriff Dotson.

The Sheriff also went on to say, he appreciates the tips and calls from residents.
