According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 6 pm on Saturday evening an 18 year old identified as Duane Hutchison was traveling by bicycle on Hwy 230 in Strawberry when he was struck by a vehicle. According to reports, the driver of the vehicle identified as Rick Williams of Powhatan struck the cyclist with the passenger side mirror and caused the rider to fall and the bicycle to go under the rear wheels of the vehicle, crushing the bicycle.

While investigating the incident, the officer received a call of a subject who thought he’d struck an animal in the same area. The deputy responded to the residence of Rick Williams and matched the broken mirror from the pedestrian accident scene to the damaged vehicle.
