American Battle of the Books 2012
Sloan-Hendrix Middle School 5-8 Team Competition
On Friday May 11th, Ms. Causbie and Ms. Wallis led their 4-6 and 5-8 teams in the First American Battle of the books competition for Sloan-Hendrix Middle School. The first place winning team in the 4-6 division was Brittany Duncan, Faith Hufstedler, and Azacia Williams. Taking 2nd place was Brittney Murphy, Lauren Honeycutt, and Jaden Sharum.
First place in the 6-8 division was Matt Zwick, Gage Gaines, and Haley Lingenfelter. 2nd place Blayzey Rose, Kyra Williams , Claire Causbie, and Catrina Williams. Third place Sydney Miles, Megan Wicker, Destiny Miller, and Hannah Anderson.
All students enjoyed the fun and competition and look forward to competing next year. Parents and students may go online to view the new standard 2013 book lists for 4-6 and 5-8 to begin reading this summer. www.battleofthebooks.org Students are also encouraged to visit the local Bobbie Jean Memorial Library to check out some of the books on the list.
The 2012 Elks Essay contest winners of the Americanism essay are 1st place Blayzey Rose, 2nd place Brittney Murphy, and 3rd place Sami McQuay.
