Seven Telecommunicators from the Lawrence County Communications Center recently completed a 48 hours First Responder Class sponsored by BlackRiver Technical College Fire Training Center and taught by Joe Chappell.The class was held at the Walnut Ridge Police Department. The objectiveof the course was to provide Telecommunicators answering 911 calls with the necessary skills and knowledge to assist them with emergency medical techniques should an unfortunate incident occur. Telecommunicators were given the knowledge and taught skills in a classroom and practical setting and demonstrated the necessary skills during practical and during
written examinations. Sherri Sparks, Assistant Director of Lawrence County Communications Center stated that all of the Telecommunicators working in the Lawrence County Communications Center, both full and part-time, are either qualified as a First Responder or an EMT. She also stated that this made a great deal of difference in our ability to properly process 911 calls and send the proper resources on the response.
