On April 19, 2011 the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dept with assistance from the Hoxie Police Dept arrested Michael Morse (03/12/70) of Hoxie for theft by deception. The arrest came after a lady from the Smithville area paid Morse $750 to remove a large tree from her yard. Morse took payment for the work but never returned to do the work. Several months went by without the work being done or the money being returned to the lady. Deputies took the information from the lady and did an affidavit for a warrant. The warrant was issued and entered into the system. Hoxie Police Dept came across Morse and arrested him for the Sheriff’s Dept. Both departments are investigating similar crimes involving Morse and any other potential victims are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Dept. Morse is being detained at the Lawrence County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
