Chief Alan Haskins of the Walnut Ridge Fire Department announced to the Mayor and City Council Members at it’s Tuesday night meeting that the WRFD had been awarded a Class 3 ISO certification.

The WRFD joins 39 other fire departments in the state of Arkansas and only 1878 nationwide to have reached this milestone. Jonesboro, Paragould, Newport and Batesville are the only other Class 3 Departments in our area and this makes Walnut Ridge the smallest in population in the area to have this certification.

Mayor Rogers and Councilman Button Wallin were on hand for comment following the meeting and commended Chief Haskins and the entire Walnut Ridge Fire Department for the hard work.

Chief Haskins said that the lowering of the classification was a direct effect of the hard work by his firemen and the support of the City Council.

Chief Haskins also reminded us that the lower ISO number also results in lower fire insurance rate especially for commercial rates which could be a factor in bringing in new business to the area and making the rates better for current commercial properties.

This makes the Walnut Ridge Fire Department the only department in Lawrence County to have a Class 3 Certification. The certification goes into effect November 1st.
