What’s a slider? It’s essentially a mini hamburger. The name comes from their size( they are considered to “slide” right down your throat in one or two bites) Easy to make, fun, and delicious to eat. So I thought what better time to make sliders than adding them to the Super Bowl party menu for the weekend. Try a slider buffet with all the trimmings, go gourmet with your sliders, or serve them as a simple appetizer. Anyway you choose, sliders will be a hit. Here is my slider recipe with a few ideas thrown in on what makes a really great slider buffet.

Super Bowl Sliders
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 pound ground sausage
Mix ground beef and sausage in a large mixing bowl. Add in seasoning. I use a mixture of pepper, garlic salt, seasoned salt, and smokey mesquite seasoning.
Scoop out a serving of the meat mixture with an ice cream scoop. Then form into balls. Place onto a heated skillet and mash down with spatula while cooking until done. Add a half a slice of cheese to melt on top during the last few minutes. You can use american cheese, cheddar, pepper jack, swiss etc… Your choice!

1 large chopped onion (saute chopped onion in a skillet with a tablespoon of butter and set aside for topping your sliders if desired)

Dinner rolls heated in the oven until done for buns. Again go as plain or as crazy as you like. Use potato rolls, onion rolls, etc.. if you don’t have dinner rolls use hot dog buns halved.

Fry up some bacon for people to use as a topper.

The fixin’s
Pickles, lettuce, tomato, pickled jalepeno peppers, ketchup, mustard, mayo, ranch or thousand island dressing, bacon slices, onion, grilled pineapple slices,, etc… Just a few ideas for condiments.
My fav slider is topped with cheese, thousand island dressing, jalepeno peppers, bacon, and a grilled pineapple ring.

Arrange a table or bar with all the fixings. Let everyone make their own sliders, just be sure to have plenty of variety!
