Newport Police say a nine-year-old girl was found deceased after authorities say she drowned in a lake.
Newport Police Department was called to Newport Lake around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24th, to investigate a report of a child drowning.
After a search of the area, law enforcement found the child unresponsive in the water.
Authorities performed resuscitation measures, the child was taken to Unity Health where she was pronounced dead.
An investigation is ongoing at this time, no further information was released.
