Authorities on Monday night received a 911 call from a female in the 300 block of Walnut Street around 11:29 pm stating a male subject had made threats and at one point held a machete to the female’s throat. Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office along with Black Rock Police were dispatched to the area where the man was last seen.

The suspect was reportedly outside the residence when the female called 911.

Law enforcement arrived on scene and discovered the suspect was at a residence in the area but refused to comply with officers, threatening to harm himself if officers approached.

A medical unit from ProMed Ambulance was put on standby near the scene as officers continued to negotiate with the suspect.

During the more than two hour standoff the suspect repeatedly came to the door threatening to harm himself if authorities didn’t back away from the residence.

At one point authorities attempted to use less-lethal force (tasor) to subdue the suspect but attempts failed.

Finally, shortly after 2am this morning, officers were able to end the situation peacefully and without injury.

The suspects name has not been released at this time by law enforcement authorities. Units cleared the scene by 2:15 am on Tuesday.

We will continue to update information as it is released by authorities.
