Marietta “Etta” Hedrick, formerly of Prairie Village, KS, died January 17, 2023 at Osage Nursing Center in Osage, KS.

Etta was born May 9, 1937 in Imboden, AR.  Etta was orphaned when she was 14 months old and was raised by her Grandad Hedrick in Mammoth Spring, AR.

After graduating from high school, Etta moved to Kansas City where she was employed by Southwest Bell for 37 years, retiring in June of 1991.  Until her health forced her to quit, she was one of St. Joseph Health Center’s most dedicated volunteers, donating many hours every week for several years. She was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and she was an avid Kansas City Chief’s fan.  Etta was known for her love of socks and owned hundreds of pairs, celebrating everything from holidays to her love of cats and dogs.  She was a funny, feisty, and generous woman.

Etta was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Hedrick; her grandad, Walter Hedrick; and family members, Peggy England, Bryan England, and Linda England Bost.

She is survived by her cousins, Jerry England of Lee Summit, MO and Janice Shanks of Imboden, AR and cousins-in-law Jim Bost of Lawrence, KS and Linda England of Davenport, IA and their families.  Etta is also survived by and was a godparent to Sarah Freeland of Brooklyn, NY and Peter Moorman.

A Graveside service will be held Saturday, January 21st at 10:00 AM in Kelley Cemetery in Imboden, AR.
