Authorities have identified Matthew Dale Hatley, age 26 of Black Rock with the assault on two officers in Hoxie around 9 am on Monday.
Lawrence County Dispatch received a call about a man walking in and out of traffic. An officer from Hoxie PD and an officer from Walnut Ridge PD responded to the area of Hwy 367 and the intersection of Hwy 63. The subject allegedly attacked the officers with a pipe sending both to an area hospital with injuries. At some point during the altercation shots were fired but no one was hit. The officers were treated with what was described as non life threatening injuries. Hatley was arrested and taken to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he faces multiple charges of Aggravated Assault On A Police Officer.
Matthew Dale Hatley has an extensive criminal record including past charges of Breaking And Entering, Assault, Drug Possession, DWI, Escape, Public Intoxication and Absconding out of Randolph, Clay, Greene, Craighead, Johnson, Taylor, Poinsett and Crittenden counties.
The Arkansas State Police has been requested to assist with the investigation into the incident this morning.
