Dear Red Wolves:As you woke up this morning, you learned that the University Police issued a shelter-in-place warning at 12:21 a.m. after determining that one of our residents had been injured in a shooting. After the crime scene investigation was completed and I was assured that no known threat continued to exist on campus, we cancelled the shelter-in-place at 5 a.m. Campus activities may continue as scheduled today. Because I want you always to be as informed as possible, I am writing to you to let you know what I can about the incident. Since this remains an active investigation, here is what I can share with you at this time:Early Wednesday morning, April 8, an Arkansas State student was shot by an unknown assailant in the parking lot of Red Wolf Den Apartments. The student was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for a non-life threatening injury.UPD has invited the Arkansas State Police to assist in the investigation, which may continue for several days. If anyone in the community has information that may be of assistance, contact UPD at 870-972-2093.Because this is an active criminal investigation, no further information is available at this time. When I am able to share more, I will be sure to update you. I know that this news is frightening, especially given all that our campus has gone through the past month. I mourn the fact that we all have one more burden to bear. Please remember that the university stands ready to help students or employees who are struggling to meet the significant challenges we face today. As I wrote last Thursday, I strongly encourage you to take advantage of resources like Pack Support, or to look back at last week’s message on taking care of yourselves. You do not have to face these very real challenges alone.
Sincerely,

Kelly
