About a dozen people have been displaced after the Hoxie Fire Department was called to a fire at the Ole Hickory Motel on Texas Street in Hoxie shortly after 1 am. Hoxie responded with several trucks and fire fighters after the 011 call to the Lawrence County Dispatch reported a room on fire.

Hoxie Police and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to assist, Chief Chris Ditto requested assistance from the Walnut Ridge Fire Department, two engines were dispatched to the scene.

All residents at the motel were able to get out safely, those people were transported to the Lawrence County Courthouse until the American Red Cross was notified and set up in the Hoxie Service Center to assist those displaced.

Walnut Ridge was on scene until after 4 am, there were no injuries reported in the fire and the cause is still unknown. Several rooms were damaged by the flames while others received smoke damage.
