Storms across the county on Sunday night caused damage in the Hoxie area on Sunday night. On Sunday afternoon the National Weather Service placed Lawrence County under a Flash Flood Warning and a Tornado Watch until 10 pm.

At 6:50 pm a strong line of storms passed through the Hoxie/Walnut Ridge area with high winds and large amounts of rainfall. Hoxie Fire was called to Midway Road after reports of a roof being blown off a building and several trees down, a high voltage power line belonging to Entergy was also damaged causing power outages to both Hoxie and Walnut Ridge.

Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Hoxie Police Department and Hoxie Fire Department with blocking off streets in the damaged area. Deputies also responded to the area of Lawrence 604 after a report came into the Lawrence County Dispatch of a cloud formation with possible rotation in the area. Deputies reported no damage in the area.

After a couple hours Entergy restored power to the Hoxie/Walnut Ridge area. The Hoxie Fire Department responded to several other trees down in the area from what is being described as straight line winds. There were no reported injuries in the events of Sunday night.
