Amtrak Emergency Management in conjunction with the Lawrence County Office Of Emergency Management hosted a Passenger Rail Safety and Extrication Class in Walnut Ridge on Monday. The event focused on dealing with railway accidents involving passenger trains traveling through the area. Responders learned the proper way to approach the accident, remove injured passengers and hazards around the railways and train cars. 
 
Charlie Cox with the Amtrak Management and Corporate Security traveled from New Orleans to host the class in several areas along the path of the Amtrak Trains including Walnut Ridge. The event attracted responders from all across the area. In attendance were members of the Walnut Ridge Fire Department, Walnut Ridge Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County OEM, Lawrence County Prosecutors Office, Hoxie Fire Department, Black Rock Police Department, Black Rock Fire Department, Imboden Fire Department, Ravenden Fire Department, Ravenden Police Department, Manila Fire Department, Bono Fire Department, Greene County Rescue Squad, Portia Fire Department, Alicia Fire Department, Lawrence County Dispatch Center, Lawrence County Amateur Radio Club, Black River Fire Training Center, Arkansas State Police, Randolph County OEM, AET Ambulance, Medic One Ambulance and flight crews from Hospital Wing, Air-Evac and Survival Flight.
 
The Lawrence County OEM wishes to thank Michelle Anthony and the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport for the assistance in transporting the helicopter crews the class, Paige VanBrook with the Lawrence County Dispatch for handling registration and all the responders who took time out their busy schedules to attend the class. Special thanks to Peggy Miles and Delinda Duckworth for putting together a wonderful meal for those in attendance, your hard work is much appreciated.
