Units from both the Hoxie Fire Department and Walnut Ridge Fire Department were paged by the Lawrence County Dispatch to the scene of a two vehicle accident on Hwy 67 south of Minturn around 1:30 pm on Wednesday.

Ambulances from both AET of Walnut Ridge and Medic One were dispatched as well to what was described as a two vehicle serious accident involving a semi truck and a mini van. Within minutes, rescue crews were on scene and began to extricate one victim from the mini van with injuries described as “critical”. Firefighters landed a medical helicopter on the scene at 1:43 pm as the victim was removed from the vehicle, a second injured person was described to as having non life threatening injuries.

Officers from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters completely closed off Hwy 67 while the victims were attended to. Firefighters also had to deal with a fuel leak from the semi truck, spilling fuel on the ground as the rescue was being performed. A large wrecker was called for to deal with the overturned truck.

One patient from the accident was flown to the Med in Memphis for treatment of injuries, the identity of the injured was not released. The accident is being investigated by the Arkansas State Police. The cause of the accident is not known.
