 Robert Thompson has been a Democratic member of the Arkansas State Senate since 2007 and currently serves as Majority Leader.
Thompson is running for re-election in the 2012 election for Arkansas Senate, District 20.
Robert Thompson was born and raised in Paragould and graduated from Paragould (Ridgecrest) High School in 1989. After obtaining a degree in history from Hendrix College in Conway, Robert attended graduate school at the University of St. Andrews, in Scotland, on a Rotary Foundation Scholarship. In 1997, he graduated first in his class from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville and served as editor-in-chief of the Arkansas Law Review.
Following law school, Robert served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Richard S. Arnold of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He worked as a deputy prosecuting attorney in Greene County for five years and is currently a partner at the Paragould law firm of Branch, Thompson, Warmath and Dale.
In 2004, Robert was elected to the state House of Representatives and represented the city of Paragould and the town of Oak Grove Heights in the legislature. He has served in the Arkansas state Senate since 2007. Robert is currently the Senate Majority Leader.
Robert and his wife, Tori, have three children – Cross, Henry and Victoria. They are active members of the First United Methodist Church in Paragould. Robert is a member of the Paragould Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow.
Robert Thompson’s top priorities are job growth, education, and running government efficiently. Robert is also committed to fighting drug crime and abuse, and providing help for people struggling with addiction and domestic abuse.
