On September 11, 2011 the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dept. arrested John Harvey (08/21/81) of Gassville, AR for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (hydrocodone), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substance without a prescription, reckless driving, 3 counts endangering the welfare of a minor, battery in the second degree and DWI drugs. The arrest came after the Lawrence County Communications Center received several 911 calls about a white Lincoln car driving reckless, almost hitting an 18 wheeler head on and also striking several road signs on Highway 412 outside of Walnut Ridge. A deputy was dispatched and soon made contact with the vehicle. The deputy observed the vehicle driving all over the road and pulled it over quickly. When the deputy went to speak with the driver, Harvey could barely speak and had trouble standing when the deputy got him out of the vehicle. The deputy also noticed inside the vehicle where 3 small children. The deputy did a pat down of Harvey and noticed a large container in his pocket. Harvey was asked to remove the container from his pocket. Inside the container was a plastic baggie containing 48 hydrocodone pills and 2 Xanax pills. Harvey then told the deputy that he had some syringes and a spoon inside the door panel of the vehicle. DHS was contacted about the small children and responded to the scene. DHS took custody of the small children and Harvey was transported to the Lawrence County Jail. At the jail, Harvey was drug tested and tested positive for meth and opiates. Harvey became combative at the jail and kicked the deputy before he could be restrained. Harvey is awaiting a bond hearing on Tuesday.
