Lawrence County passed an ordinance Monday banning the sale and use of the synthetic marijuana known as K-2.

Other cities and counties have enacted similar laws concerning the substance, such as the City of Pocahontas who also passed the new law Monday. Sharp County and the City of Walnut Ridge already have simular bans.

Attorney Dick Jarbo told the Quorum Court that a person caught possessing the K-2 can receive a fine of up to $1000.00 for the first offense and $2000.00 for the second offense but no jail time. In Walnut Ridge a person may be sentenced to up a year in jail.
