A motorcycle pursuit that began in the early morning hours on Friday ended in Sharp County.
Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle on Hwy 117 just outside Black Rock at 1:48am on Friday morning.
The motorcycle refusing to stop continued on Hwy 117 to Hwy 63 and turning toward Imboden.
Speeds in the pursuit ranged from 30mph to 70mph according to officers. At times, the motorcycle seemed to be having mechanical problems, slowing down but then the pursuit would pick up speed and continue.
Sharp County Sheriff’s Office, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police were all notified of the chase.
As the chase continued up Hwy 63 officers noted several instances where the rider nearly struck oncoming traffic and the officers vehicle.
Shortly after 2am the pursuit entered Sharp County, the rider abandoned the motorcycle and escaped into the woods near the Liquor Store north of Ravenden.
Dail’s Wrecker Service of Ravenden was dispatched to remove the motorcycle.
The investigation is still ongoing.
