Grants received by the Walnut Ridge Fire Department help purchase needed equipment for the department.

Captain Chris Jones on Wednesday showed off the equipment purchased through grants written by Steve Jones and Sherri Sparks. According to Captain Jones, the grant consisted of repelling equipment used by the department for entering grain bins from the top and other elevated scenes. Jones stated that the department already had members trained for such situations. This included ropes, harnesses, safety equipment and storage boxes for the equipment.

Also on the grant was road block barricades and a trailer to not only store the material but allow the department to quickly move them into place. Jones stated that barricades are need all around Walnut Ridge to re-route traffic around fire scenes and also to close roads due to high water.
