August 19th, the first day of the 2010-2011 school year is approaching fast for the Imboden Area Charter School.
Established in 2002, the IACS has seen growth in not only students each year but also growth in student test scores. Mrs. Judy Warren, Director of the Imboden Area Charter School has been credited by others as “having the experience and passion to take what the educational consultants recommended and make it work really well at Imboden.”
In 2009 the Imboden Area Charter School was honored as a “School Of Excellence” by the Arkansas Department of Education. The school received a rating of 5 which is the highest rating a school can have.
Mrs. Warren went on to advise us that the school has received numerous students from the Twin Rivers School District which closed at the end of the last school year. When asked about expansion she said ” with growth comes expansion and although we are full at this time we do have an opportunity to expand if needed.”
Mrs. Warren also informed us that charter schools do not fall under the “Freedom of Choice” act, meaning that students may transfer to the Imboden Area Charter School at anytime. Also she stressed that there is a misconception about charter schools, saying that the public believes there is a charge to attend. Mrs. Warren stated that there is no charge to attend a charter school, it is a public school serving students from gifted and talented to students with special needs.
