On Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, a Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy came in contact with 56yr. old John Henry Laxton of Rector on County Road 528 East of Highway 90.

Mr. Laxton had been contacted on Monday by a deputy needing a statement concerning an incident he witnessed. Mr. Laxton is on parole, and the deputy conducted a search of him and the vehicle. After talking with Mr. Laxton, they went to a camping trailer on 528 that Laxton was living in. A search was conducted of the trailer where a snorting straw was found with white powder inside it. A test was done on the powder, and it tested positive to be Meth.

Mr. Laxton was taken into custody and was asked if he had anything on him that he needed to declare before he got to the Detention Center. Mr. Laxton advised the deputy he had nothing to declare. While Mr. Laxton was being transported to the Detention Center, he advised the deputy he had drugs on him. When Mr. Laxton was booked into the Clay County Detention Center on the following charges. Possession of SCH I or II GT 2GM but LT 10gm and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
