On January 1st, 2025 at approximately 1:17 a.m. Officers with the Corning Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle on Creason Road for a traffic violation. Once officers activated their emergency lights and siren the vehicle then fled from officers. The suspect led officers around several city streets on the north side of town before fleeing to County Road 169 where the vehicle lost control in a curve and crashed. No one was injured in the accident. After the pursuit officers learned that the vehicle had been taken without permission. A juvenile was also located in the vehicle post pursuit. 18 year old Aaron Qualls was arrested following the pursuit and was taken to the Clay County Detention Center. Mr. Qualls was charged with § 5-54-125 Fleeing a class C Felony, § 5-36-108 Unauthorized use of a vehicle a class A Misdemeanor, § 5-27-206 Endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree a class A Misdemeanor, § 27-50-308 Reckless Driving, § 27-22-104 No proof of liability insurance, and § 27-37-702 No seat belt. Later that day Clay County District Judge Dan Stidham set bond on Mr. Qualls for the above listed charges at $10,000 cash only.
