Arkansas State Police arrested a Charles Benham in connection with a deadly multi-vehicle crash in Jackson County that killed two people in October 2023.

Charles Benham was arrested on suspicion of felony reckless burning.

The charges are from an October 3rd 2023 fatal accident that authorities say was a result of the suspect recklessly burning field along Hwy 67 causing smoke that created hazardous conditions.

The Arkansas State Police investigation stated that as vehicles began to enter the smoke, a chain reaction crash occurred that involved five commercial and 11 passenger cars.

68-year-old Thomas Blevins, of Logan, Ohio, and 55-year-old Terry Lutz, of Somerset, Ohio, were both killed in the crash.

The report stated that 6 other people were injured: 42-year-old Alfonso Hernandez, of Los Fresnos, Texas, 59-year-old Greg Redford, of Elkville, Illinois, 39-year-old Sara Guajardo, of Painesville, Ohio, 21-year-old Emma Vosburg, of Newark, Arkansas, 45-year-old Brittany Cricher of Newark, Arkansas and 42-year-old Eric Tharp of Newport, Arkansas.
