Ms. Hollis’s Fourth and Fifth grade students have been studying plant and animal cells in science.
They have been learning the various parts of the cells. One day they had a special treat where they
reproduced all the parts of an animal cell and all of the materials they used were edible. Clear Gelatin
was the cytoplasm, round cake sprinkles were ribosomes, jelly beans served as mitochondria, malt balls
were vacuoles and a large grape was the nucleus. The project was not only educational where students
learned the parts of an animal cell but were delicious and the clean up of the science project was fun
and no messes were left.
