May is Mental Health Awareness Month, established in 1949 to reduce stigma, educate the public, and promote support for mental wellness. Throughout May, organizations like NAMI and Mental Health America lead campaigns to highlight that 1 in 5 adults experiences mental illness, promoting that seeking help is a sign of strength.

How to Get Involved

  • Share Stories: Use your voice to break the stigma and show that no one is alone in their struggles.
  • Wear Green: Participate in initiatives to “paint the town green” to raise awareness.
  • Use Resources: Explore websites and pages that promote and educate about mental wellness.
  • Check In: Encourage mental health screenings and check-ups, just as you would for physical health.

The main goal is to eliminate the shame associated with mental illness.
