Tip Leads To Warrant And Arrest By JPD Internet Crimes Against Children Division
On 11-05-2024, the Jonesboro Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Division received a cyber tip from the Arkansas State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The cyber tip included a report from Dropbox about 13 videos uploaded from a specific email account. They included material of juvenile females engaging in sexual acts with other juveniles. An IP address was provided to a local internet provider, and a warrant was issued for a specific Gmail account.
Through the investigation, a suspect, Matthew Layton, was identified and no longer lived at the associated address. Several other artifacts related to Mr. Layton were discovered, including the IP address and several GPS searches linked to his current address in the 5000 block of Bed Rock. With all cyber tips combined, Layton had distributed child sexual abuse material approximately 94 times.
On 04/17/2025, our officers completed a search warrant at two locations where Mr. Layton had lived. Several electronic devices were seized, and Layton was placed in custody. He received a $100,000 bond and can no longer access the internet.
