On Sunday March 15th, 2026 at approximately 8:41 P.M. the Sheriff’s Dept. received a 911 call about a domestic at 1824 Highway 90 Knobel. When deputies arrived, they were met by a grandson, who directed deputies to a bathroom where 91yr. old Joe E. Dodd was laying by the shower. His son Joe Ray Dodd was trying to wipe blood off him and clean him up. Deputies got Joe Ray Dodd out of the bathroom, and helped medical personnel get Mr. Dodd to the ambulance. While Mr. Dodd was in the ambulance he told medical personnel, and deputies that his son Joe Ray Dodd had beat him up. Deputies took 71yr. old Joe Ray Dodd into custody and transported him to the Clay County Detention Center. Joe Ray Dodd was booked in on the following charge: Domestic Battery 1st Degree. Joe Ray Dodd is being held on a $500,000 bond, set by District Judge Curtis Hitt. Joe Dodd was transported to St. Bernards in Jonesboro, and then taken to the Med in Memphis. He is at the present time in I.C.U. While deputies were at the scene they noticed several items with blood on them, which they seized. One of those items was a oxygen tank that had blood on the bottom. The Sheriff’s Dept. in the last few months had been at Mr. Dodd’s residence investigating possible abuse. The Sheriff’s Dept. has also accompanied Adult Protection Services to the residence to investigate abuse. Both times Mr. Dodd told them there was no abuse occurring.
