A registered sex offender has been arrested for entering a city park after he was found at the Lancaster City Park in Gassville in the early morning hours.
JEREMIAH WAYNE SELFRIDGE, 28 years old of Yellville, Arkansas and a registered level 3 sex offender, along with two other people, were found in a vehicle at the Lancaster Park at approximately 12:40 AM on March 3rd by a Gassville Police Department Officer on patrol. SELFRIDGE gave the excuse of his vehicle having overheated as his reason for stopping in the park, but there was no corroborating evidence of this.
Sheriff’s Deputy Tanner Anderson, who oversees sex offender registration and monitoring in Baxter County, provided information of this encounter with SELFRIDGE to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which filed a criminal charge against JEREMIAH SELFRIDGE, and a bench warrant for his arrest was issued.
JEREMIAH SELFRIDGE was arrested Monday, March 16th, on this warrant and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center. While at the Detention Center, SELFRIDGE refused to comply with instructions of jail staff and actively used force against jailers attempting to restrain him, which resulted in additional charges being brought against him.
SELFRIDGE is currently being held in custody on charges of:
Sex offender (Level 3 or Level 4) entering a public park – Felony
Battery on an officer – Felony
Assault in the Third Degree – Misdemeanor
Impairing Operations of a Vital Public Facility – Misdemeanor
SELFRIDGE has a bond of $25,000 and will appear before the Circuit Court to answer on March 30th.
The other two people in the vehicle were not charged with anything.
John F. Montgomery,
Baxter County Sheriff
