A Jonesboro woman pled guilty in court to aggravated cruelty to dog/cat/equine (Felony) after authorities accused her operating a puppy mill in her home. A judge also ordered her to undergo a psychological evaluation.
Karen Siegel of Jonesboro pled guilty to aggravated cruelty to a dog, cat or equine, a Class D felony and was sentenced to 24 months of supervised probation with 50 days of house arrest.
Siegel was also ordered to pay $650 in fines and $132,592.07 in restitution.
Siegel is prohibited from owning any animals during the duration of her probation, according to the press release.
In January 2024, Jonesboro Police Department along with Jonesboro Animal Control seized 51 dogs and puppies from Siegel’s home on Baker Street.
Authorities reported the inside of the residence was covered in feces and smelled strongly of urine.
Investigators discovered a dog on the back patio that appeared to have been deceased for some time and another deceased dog was found in a trash bag inside a freezer.
Numerous remaining dogs appeared severely malnourished.
