On January 20th, 2026 the Sheriff’s Dept. opened an investigation into 36yr. old Brandon Wolner of Corning. The Sheriff’s Dept. had been contacted by numerous people about a contractor taking money, but not doing any work. There were also complaints of him being given money to buy materials, and never showing up with the material.
After taking statements from numerous people, the Sheriff’s Dept. met with Prosecutor Mike Trail on Monday January 9th.
Each individual case was discussed to determine what was civil, and what was criminal. After the meeting the Sheriff’s Dept. applied for an arrest warrant for 5 Felony counts of Theft.
The Sheriff’s Dept. arrested Mr. Wolner Monday night in Corning, and he was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in. The Sheriff’s Dept. is still taking statements, and the investigation is not closed.
