David Hall Johnson, 76, of Walnut Ridge, passed from this life on Friday, December 26, 2025, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born on August 3, 1949, to Rudy Lee and Hazel Viola (Hall) Johnson in Walnut Ridge. He was united in marriage to Cindy Ray on January 16, 1984, in Jonesboro. He was a member of the Portia Church of Christ.
David earned a Ph.D. in Music and devoted more than 40 years to teaching instrumental and vocal music. He was deeply involved in shape-note singing, attending numerous seminars and gatherings throughout his life. He was a lifelong song leader in the Church of Christ. His interests extended beyond music to a passion for Civil War history. David was also the founder of the 7th Arkansas Band, an endeavor that united his love of music, history, and education.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Warmack, and his daughter-in-law, Bridgette Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy, of the home; His sons, Brandon Johnson (Amber) of Jonesboro and Ben Johnson of Fort Smith; his sister, Shirley Shankle (Bob) of Sheridan; grandchildren, Breanna Whitworth (Jason), Adele Johnson, and Thomas Johnson; great-granddaughter, Thalia Whitworth; one niece and three nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge, with funeral services following immediately at 11 a.m. Rowdy Fortson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
