From the Black Sheep Egg Company:
The recall information that circulated yesterday does not represent a new recall. One of our buyers in Texas issued a press release referencing the voluntary recall from September 19th, which involved eggs that were delivered and repackaged in that state. That remains the only recall associated with Black Sheep Egg Company. At that time, we promptly contacted all of our customers and made them aware of the situation.
Recently, the FDA conducted routine environmental testing at our facility. A small number of environmental swabs—taken from non-food contact surfaces such as floor drains, cracks, and drip pans—tested positive for Salmonella. Several days later, the FDA issued a general statement about those findings, which unfortunately caused understandable concern about product safety.
We want to emphasize that all eggs tested negative for Salmonella and showed no signs of contamination. Out of an abundance of caution and with our consumers’ safety in mind, we voluntarily recalled certain lots of eggs in September. This decision reflects our company’s unwavering commitment to providing safe, high-quality products.
In addition to the corrective actions we have already completed, we want to reaffirm that Black Sheep Egg Company maintains a comprehensive food safety plan across all producers. This includes regular testing and swabbing of eggs before they ever enter our processing facility, ensuring that only safe, top-quality eggs reach our customers.
To date, no eggs produced, processed, or distributed by Black Sheep Egg Company have ever tested positive for any disease.
We want to reassure our community that our eggs remain safe for consumption. Food safety is—and always will be—our top priority. Thank you for trusting Black Sheep Egg Company, your local, farmer-owned egg producer, and for your continued support.
Our “Thanks” to the Black Sheep Egg Company for providing this release.
