On October 21, 2025, officers from the Corning Police Department responded to a report of a man holding two individuals at gunpoint and threatening to shoot them. Upon arrival, officers successfully apprehended the individual without incident. Further investigation revealed that the man had exited his residence from the rear of the Relax Inn Motel and pointed a shotgun at two individuals burning leaves on their own property, which had enraged the highly intoxicated individual, a convicted felon. Stephen Lyons, a 63-year-old Corning resident, was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked on the following charges: 5-13-204 Aggravated Assault, 5-73-103 Possession of Firearm by Certain Persons, and 5-71-212 Public Intoxication.
Mr. Lyons bond was set y Clay County District Jusge Dan Stidham at $25,000 cash only.
