On October 14, 2025, officers from the Corning Police Department responded to a call at the intersection of Oak and Overdean Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a white male asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped at a stop sign. The officers approached the vehicle and observed the man asleep with the vehicle still in drive. A glass pipe containing a white residue was visible in the driver’s shirt pocket. The officers successfully awakened the man and shifted the vehicle into park. The driver was then asked to exit the vehicle and was taken into custody. An 8-inch kitchen knife in a holster was found on the driver’s hip. Following identification, officers learned that the driver was on felony probation with a search waiver on file. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a clear plastic bag containing a white crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, a set of digital scales, and a THC pill. The pipe in the driver’s shirt pocket also contained the crystal substance.
Gary Mctyre, a 60-year-old resident of Piggott, was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center. Mr. Mctyre was charged with possession of a controlled substance (schedule I, less than 2 grams), felony possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance (schedule VI, less than 4 ounces), and carrying a weapon. On October 16, 2025, Clay County District Judge Dan Stidham found probable cause to charge Mr. Mctyre with the listed offenses and set bond at $2,500 cash or surety.
