On one of our outings recently we spied this box on a “Two Hour Parking” sign in front of the Howell County Courthouse in West Plains Missouri.

A few moments and a “Google” later we learned this:

In 1936, Donald Duncan, a yo-yo entrepreneur in the United States, decided to build a new parking meter designed for an emerging automotive population.

He employed a vastly improved mechanical design and marketed it with such flair that by 1959, the Duncan parking company was manufacturing over 80 per cent of all the meters being installed around the world.

The Duncan “Fine-O-Meter” was designed to accept Traffic Violation Envelopes (with payment) left on vehicles by traffic officers.

This particular box is located on the square in West Plains Missouri.
