Marvin “Red” Oaks, 83, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away on October 3, 2025. He was born on January 9, 1942, in Imboden, Arkansas, to Marvin H. and Lucille Oaks. One of five children, Red was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother, and ex-wife Jean Oaks.

After many attempts at retirement, Red officially concluded a remarkable 64-year career at McNabb Funeral Home, where his dedication, compassion, and work ethic became a cornerstone of the community. Alongside his work at McNabb’s, he ran a car-detailing business for many years. Known for his tireless energy, Red often joked that his favorite hobby was work—but he also treasured conversations over breakfast at 166 Café or lunch at Don’s, where he caught up with friends and shared stories.

Red’s love for life was reflected in the little things: he never turned down a slice of cake or pie, was fiercely loyal to Diet Dr. Pepper, and could always be counted on for a good laugh.

Red’s mornings often included his rounds in the McNabb van, a familiar sight to many and a symbol of his steady presence. He was a man of routine, but never of rigidity—his life was rich with warmth, humor, and the kind of wisdom that comes from truly knowing and loving the people around him.

Red found comfort and connection in the sounds of B.B. King and Al Green. Their voices echoed through his home, setting the tone for mornings that began with a pot of fresh coffee, a quiet moment to catch the day’s first light, and the solemn tradition of listening to the funeral announcements, a ritual that spoke to his deep respect for life and community.

Throughout his career, Red was recognized as an Angel Among Us for his dedication to families during their most difficult times. He had a gift for making people feel cared for, always going the extra mile to ensure they knew they were not alone in their grief. A man of routine yet rich in warmth and humor, Red instilled in those around him the value of hard work, excellence, and resilience. His lessons—sometimes delivered with a lecture, always with love—left a lasting impact on family, friends, and colleagues.

Red leaves behind his children, Anita Prince, Teresa Oaks, Marvin Oaks Jr., and Kelly Oaks; three grandchildren, Schatoya Prince, Tyreese Oaks, and Miles Snider; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who will cherish his memory.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the McNabb Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the McNabb Funeral Home Chapel, with Nelson Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery.
