Laveda Scott passed away peacefully in Hospice Care at Lawrence Hall Nursing
Center. Laveda lived a great life of 93 years. Her family loved her very much. She was born on July 19, 1932, in Bono, Arkansas.
Laveda was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge.
On August 30, 1952, Laveda Songer Scott married Ray Scott in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They were married for almost 69 years. They are survived by two
daughters, Cathy Holman (Rick) and Cindy Logan (Scott);
three grandchildren: Kelli Cochran (Jason), Katie Potter, Chris Logan (Hannah);
and four great grandchildren: Caden and Claire Cochran, Ella Grace Potter, and
Collier Scott Logan.
Laveda is preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Clara Songer; her brother,
Victor Songer; and her sisters, Annice Scott and Eunice Wimpy.
Ray and Laveda were passionate about traveling together for many years in their
motorhome. They also loved going to River Bend in Hardy and staying in their motorhome by the river.
Laveda went to Bono school all 12 years of her school life. She was the Valedictorian of her senior class. After she graduated, she attended business
college in Jonesboro. Laveda was then employed by Citizens Bank, where she was
secretary to the President of the bank. Then, she met Ray Scott at a basketball game. She went to Cheyenne, Wyoming, in August 1952 and married Ray Scott,
who was in the Air Force. Laveda worked for the railroad while living in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Laveda also worked at Bay High School, where she was a
bookkeeper and secretary to the Superintendent. When Ray was employed by Westside High School as the first boys’ coach, Laveda was a library assistant for 19 years.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., and funeral
services will be immediately following at 11 A.M. in the Bryan Chapel with Rev.
Paul Coy officiating. Interment will follow in the Lorado Cemetery in Lorado,
Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist
Church in Walnut Ridge.
We are saddened by her loss, but we know that there was a beautiful reunion in
heaven with Laveda and Ray, and other family members who preceded her.
