A north Arkansas man is accused of building a pipe bomb and taping it under his dresser.
Gavin Ogle, age 19, told his ex-girlfriend about the explosive device and that he had taped it underneath his dresser.
The ex-girlfriend informed Ogle’s mother, who then found removed the device placing it on the kitchen table.
The mother then contacted the suspect’s probation officer and told him about it. The probation officer then notified the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office.
The mother told the deputy that she called the probation officer because she didn’t know what else to do.
Authorities with Baxter County requested a bomb specialist with the Arkansas State Police. The specialist advised everyone to leave the house.
The bomb specialist inspected, disarmed, and removed the explosive from the home according to reports.
Authorities described the device as containing a fuse on the outside and gunpowder, shotgun pellets, nails, rifle shells, .22 shells, and large wood screws inside the metal tube. The cylinder was about one foot long and 1 1/4 inches in diameter.
Ogle told a law enforcement that he made the explosive because he became paranoid and wanted to use it for protection, but didn’t plan on using it on anyone.
19 year old Gavin Ogle was charged on July 22nd with criminal acts involving explosives or a destructive device.
Gavin Ogle also has an active warrant out of Marion County for non-payment of fines.
Ogle’s bond is set at $15,000.
