A 16 year old juvenile has been arrested by Black Rock Police on charges of Rape and Endangering The Welfare Of A Minor.
Chief Bryan Archer says the incident began on Wednesday night when he was notified by Lawrence County of the alleged incident.
Chief Archer stated the department began an exhaustive investigation after the crime was reported.
Details in the case at this time are, according to BRPD, a 20 year old female was raped by a 16 year old male at a residence in Black Rock. The incident allegedly took place in front of an infant less one year old (this is the explanation for the “endangering the welfare” charge).
Chief Archer stated interviews with the victim at a local hospital and more than 30 hours of investigative work went into the case. The juvenile suspect was not at home when investigators went to get his side of the story but the parents agreed to bring to juvenile to meet with BRPD at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office at 3pm, this did not happen.
Chief Archer again went to the suspects home, the 16 year old juvenile was mirandized and refused to answer questions without a lawyer present. He was arrested and charged with Rape and Endangering The Welfare Of A Minor. The juvenile was transported to a juvenile facility in Jonesboro.
The suspect’s name is being withheld due to him being a minor, Chief Archer said the investigation into this matter continues.
