On Saturday we spoke with Black Rock Police Chief Bryan Archer about the recent changes to the speed limit on the Black River Bridge.

Chief Archer said he welcomed the change saying he always thought the speed limit was too low.

Chief Archer also emphasized that the City of Black Rock does not set the speed limit on Highway 63, this is a state highway and those decisions are made by the state.

Chief Archer also responded to comments about this area being a speed trap, Archer stated “99% of the citations written on the bridge are 68 mph or higher”.

Archer stated regardless of the speed limit, the Black Rock Police Department will continue to enforce the speed limit.

Black Rock is not the only town on Highway 63 in Lawrence County with speeds reduced as you enter city limits , 5 towns along Highway 63, Sedgwick, Portia, Black Rock, Imboden and Ravenden all have reduced speed limits as you enter the city limits.
