Fisheries biologists from Arkansas and Missouri recently collaborated to assess the Walleye population in Bull Shoals Lake. Using gill-nets and nighttime electrofishing, the teams collected 525 Walleye, revealing encouraging findings.
The sampled Walleye averaged an impressive 19.4 inches in total length, with lengths ranging from 10.8 inches right up to a trophy-sized 30.4 inches. The majority of Walleye surveyed measured between 18 and 22 inches, indicating a strong presence of harvestable-sized fish for anglers. The study also documented good growth rates with male Walleye reaching 18 inches in 3 years, while females attained that size in just 2.5 years.
Overall, results from this study indicate a healthy and thriving Walleye fishery in Bull Shoals Lake. Anglers seeking quality Walleye fishing opportunities in Arkansas should consider giving Bull Shoals Lake a try!
