On November 22, 2019 authorities were called to a residence outside of Strawberry where two gunshot victims were discovered, that is now being declared a murder/suicide by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Lawrence County CID Detective Eric Cheatham, 77 year old Hessie Lee Garvin Jr. shot and killed Tammy Cloninger, age 45 before turning the gun on himself.

Authorities are responding to two gunshot victims outside of Strawberry. Details are very limited at this time. Lawrence County Dispatch received a call at 6:44 a.m. stating one self inflicted gunshot wound.
Lawrence County deputies, Strawberry Fire Department, and Pro Med ambulance were dispatched to 1521 Hwy 25 Strawberry. at 6:49 a.m. information to deputies was updated stating that there were two gunshot victims on the scene.
Sheriff Yates along with Lawrence County CID have been notified and are en route at this time. Ambulances have been told to stage near the scene until it’s determined that the scene is safe. We will continue to update this story as information becomes available.
Update: Strawberry first responders are reporting that both gunshot victims are deceased. The Lawrence County coroner has been notified. At 7:05 am local law enforcement checked on scene.

On November 22, 2019 Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies, Arkansas State Police, along with first responders were dispatched to a residence just outside of Strawberry, Arkansas around 7:00 A.M. Deputies arrived on scene and found two deceased persons at the residence. We believe it is an isolated incident and preceive no apparent danger to the community. Both bodies have been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released at a later date
